2020 Census Update: Based on Data and Response Rates

(Publish 06.22.2020) New York Governor Andrew Cuomo capped more than three months of COVID-19 pandemic briefings on Friday, June 19, 2020. During the 111 straight days of explanation and observation, which included anecdotes about Cuomo’s family, each presentation was filled with graphs and categorical data. As the data began to demonstrate that New Yorkers consistently flattened the curve, Governor Cuomo consistently stated that phased reopening plans would be “based on the data.” Now that New York has begun to implement reopening plans across 62 counties, COVID-19 data points will continue to be viewed with an eagle eye, albeit on a local level. While carefully managing the phased reopening of Westchester in the midst of the pandemic, County Executive George Latimer and his team also have an eye on Census data. Response Rates by localities will impact legislative representation and funding for transportation, housing, education, hospitals, and other public services for the next decade. According to recently reported data, Westchester County’s 2020 Census Response Rate of 62.4% was slightly above the U.S. Response Rate of 61.5%, solidly ahead of the New York State Response Rate of 56.7%, and slightly behind Nassau County’s Response Rate of 67.6%; the highest among all 62 counties. Compare the Census 2020 Response Rates listed for each city, town, and village in Westchester County. If you have not completed the Census, do so online (my2020census.gov), by phone (1-844-330-2020/English and (844) 468-2020/Spanish), or by mailing back the Census form. “Based on the data”, Westchester needs your response
