WC Youth Bureau Offers Development Training in Collaboration with Cornell University

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- As a part of the Westchester County Youth Bureau’s Professional Development series, Director of Training with ACT for Youth Center for Community Action at Cornell University Jutta Dotterweich will present, “Putting on a Positive Youth Development Lens.” The virtual event is FREE and will take place on Wednesday, May 27 at 10a.m. utilizing the Webex video conferencing service. This offering is designed for program staff and youth allies who are interested in the evidence based Positive Youth Development framework, along with effective strategies to support children, youth, and families with every day challenges, and in particular scaffolding during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Positive Youth Development Webex is open to all youth serving agencies serving Westchester County youth. Please contact Kate Hubertus-Sugg at kmh4@westchestergov.com to register. Youth Bureau Executive Director Dr. DaMia Harris-Madden said: “We have increased our professional development series not only to support our youth through programs and services, but to ensure that best practices that can effectively prepare youth for success are made available.” Dotterweich said: “Positive youth development is really about changing adult mindsets and practices. We all want our young people to lead happy, healthy lives and to contribute to our communities—but are we, as adults, helping or hurting their prospects? Positive youth development offers adults a change in perspective and a practical approach to supporting the adolescents in their lives.” The Youth Bureau, a division of the Westchester County Executive’s Office, continues to offer ongoing professional development throughout the year. Recently, the Bureau has increased its offerings for front line youth service providers and has added a youth leadership series.
