Judge Reinstates June 23rd Presidential Primary

Dear Friends, On Tuesday, United States District Judge Analisa Torres ordered the New York State Board of Elections to reinstate to the Democratic presidential primary ballot those candidates who were duly qualified as of April 26, 2020, and to hold the primary election on June 23, 2020. In April, New York State enacted a law allowing the Board of Elections to omit from a presidential primary ballot any candidate who is no longer seeking the nomination. Under that authority, the State Board of Elections had suspended the June 23 New York Democratic Presidential primary, because only a single candidate on the ballot had an active campaign. The court has now ordered those inactive candidates to be reinstated to the ballot and for the presidential contest to be held. The Board of Elections is considering an appeal. I will keep you abreast of any further changes. Regardless of what happens with the presidential primary, there will be congressional, state, and local primary elections held on June 23. Please forward this e-news to family and friends who may be interested in this information. Sincerely, Lyndon D. Williams, Member County Board of Legislators
